1. Low Electric Costs

Europe and North America are seeing the price of electricity skyrocket. While different parts of Europe and the Northern Hemisphere are taking steps to shield consumers, the prices are still increasing. When you compare the cost of electricity in Costa Rica to the cost of electricity in the UK, the United Kingdom’s current electricity costs per 1 KW/h are more than double the current cost in Costa Rica.

Why? While European countries are dependent on petrol for their electricity, Costa Rica is taking advantage of renewable sources of energy. Costa Rica electric grid is 90% renewable so prices have very small variations. Costa Rica’s electricity cost is forecast a year in advance and for 2023 prices will go up a very manageable 2.3%.

The largest source of energy here is hydroelectricity. However, you’ll also find sources of energy from solar power, wind power, and geothermal energy.

2. Lower Cost of Living

Europe and the United Kingdom are an expensive place to live so if you’re looking to reduce your costs, moving to Costa Rica could help. On a list of the most expensive countries to live the UK ranks number 16. In comparison, Costa Rica ranks number 80.

Living in Costa Rica costs 50 per cent less than living in the UK. You’ll see your food costs, rent, and transportation costs decrease when you move from the UK to Costa Rica.

3. Heating is NOT Required

If you’re from the UK, Europe or North America, you know that heating is a big expenditure. You need to heat your home to maintain a comfortable temperature. In Costa Rica, you don’t need to worry about turning on you’re heating during the winter and, perhaps with the exception of the beaches on a hot night, you don’t need A/C either!

Costa Rica has a tropical temperate climate and temperatures usually range from 75 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperatures rarely drop below 60 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter.

Residency or Long Term Work Visa

Costa Rica is a very open country, with very few demands on foreigners seeking residency. Sure, there are hoops to go through, but it’s a straightforward process.

This program applies to individuals who make a direct investment in Costa Rica of at least $150,000 USD.  The investment can be made in any type of business or in real estate.

It’s nice to have in your back pocket

The applicant must prove that the amount already invested (not the current or future value) has a registered or verifiable value of at least $150,000 USD.

This allows home purchases such as a condominium in Riverview condominiums as an acceptable investment for the purpose of applying for temporary residency, provided the amount invested is at least $150,000 USD.  This type of investment can include the purchase price of a home in Costa Rica for personal use or for rental. Other specific requirements apply to this program.

The temporary resident can apply for permanent residency after being a temporary resident for three (3) years and eventually citizenship.

Affordable Living

costa Rica quality life is affordable (not “cheap) and you will find almost anything that you would expect in a major first world country.

Labor costs are very competitive. Many of the top companies in the world (Intel, HP, Mondelez, Pfizer, etc.)  agree with us and have many employees in costa Rica.

Many things are cheaper such as:

  • Health care and Dental
  • Public transportation
  • Cell phone services
  • Medical drugs

As Costa Rica is a major producer and exporter of fruits, meats, vegetables, these are very reasonably priced and always available in your local supermarket.

Why Costa Rica?

A democratic, law abiding, small country not involved in world politics. A country with no army, welcoming to visitors and immigrants, beautiful warm weather and beaches ….OUT OF THE WAY.

And if you buy a condominium and invest in the country, you can opt for Residency Status and eventually for citizenship …without losing your current citizenship.

Health Care

Costa Rica is one of nine blue zones- areas where people live over 90 to 100 years- in the world!

You’ll be surprised at the high standard of private hospitals. You’ll get world-class treatment for a fraction of the price you’d pay elsewhere. Same thing with dental services.

With residency you can access the local public healthcare system. Here, you have access to plenty of very first-class treatment and prescription drugs as part of your monthly Caja (the local Social Security entity) payment.

If you’re coming from the United States, you may be surprised to see no-one goes broke in Costa Rica paying for healthcare.
